FAWM is February Album Writing Month. It's a challenge to get you to write 14 songs in 28 days. There are often prompts/parameters that they throw out for you to use. I'm sure I won't be writing my best songs when cranking them out this quickly but it will be a great experience to practice.
Here's my first song. I decided to base the song on the first two chords I played when I grabbed my guitar. From there I used a random batch of words and tried my string them together to make some sort of sense. For the most part that's how I created the lyrics presented here. This Song (Hewitt) c2018 I accept this Challenge No despair from the directions I have no issues with the laws It’s not draining my faith As I determine the fate Of this song I’ll write something won’t take too long I’ve learned a lesson that I can carry on I’ve met the mystery head on It might reinstate Some kind of faith Through this song This is my first Song for FAWM And I’m determined Not to be the one That breaks the rules Don’t break no rules I'll be performing a short set of my songs tomorrow at Exile On Main Street as part of the Record Store Day festivities. I'll be on the inside stage at 10:45am. It's early for me and the first of my solo looping shows. Come on out, buy lots of records, stay all day and listen to all the bands that are performing.
Here's a like to the event invite followed by the current schedule: The 92s A Fightin' Duo (The Fights) Aaron Short (of The Bashful Youngens) Bardo Chase Baby The Dirty Feathers The Districts Jim Hewitt Kowabunga! I'm planning to do some shows this summer both solo (with acoustic, electric and bass guitars, keyboards and a looping pedal) and with The Carrie Whitesnakes. The first performance will be on Record Store Day, April 22, at Exile on Main Street in Champaign. I'm also looking to get some things lined up in Fort Wayne. Hope to see you out. Many thanks go to John Isberg for pulling this together. John is in the process of putting together a documentary of the Champaign Urbana music scene and did all of the hard work making this happen. The location was the former Mabel's building and the whole event was a blast!
